DescriptionCoat: Red Wing fire chief coat. The coat is navy blue cotton wool blend. It is double breasted and has a notched collar. On each collar notch is a gold shank button with "FD" and laurel leaves. There are 2 rows of 3 buttons. The buttons are gold with "FD" and laurel leaves. Only the right side buttons button. There are button holes on the left side. There is a left chest pocket. On the bound pocket opening is a gold name tag with black "Walter Engeldinger". Above the pocket is a gold badge. It is a shield with a circle in the center with long, straigt musical horn like objects and an eagle on top of the shield. On the eagle is "Chief" and on the shield is "Fire Dept Red Wing Minn". There is a lower pocket on each side with a straight flap. There is a small pocket inside the right pocket. The cuffs have 3 gold woven stripes on the front. Below the stripes are 2 decorative gold buttons with "FD" and laurel leaves in a vertical row. All of the buttons are shank buttons except the right closure buttons. The coat is lined with black nylon. There is a hanging loop. On the inside half way down is a black plastic button on one side and a button hole on the other side. On the inside right there are two small black plastic buttons one each behind the outer bottom two closure buttons. Inside is a pocket on each side. Under the right pocket is a label with a gold shield with black lions and a crown and a black shield with a gold "L" in it. Below it is "Designed by Lavigne". There is a white tag with black "DRY CLEAN ONLY./DO NOT USE PET-/ROLEUM SOLVENTS/OR COIN OPERATED/METHODS OF/DRY CLEANING.". Condition - There are a few light stains on the right cuff.

The Fire Chief uniform belonged to Walter "Bud" Engeldinger of Red Wing. According to his obituary, he had served as fire chief of the Red Wing fire department from 1965 until his death in 1976. He was a volunteer fireman since 1948 and joined the fire department in 1954. He was born in 1919.
